Image : http://www.flickr.com

Tonle Sap Lake is located south of the city of Siem Reap is the largest lake in Cambodia, and plays a key role in the ecological balance of the country.

In the dry season, is a shallow lake that crosses the Tonle Sap river in the Mekong River in Phnom Penh. Change in June-November rainy season, when the high water level of Mekong River leads to a return to the Tonle Sap river in the area of the lake. The flow increases the size ofLake from its low of 2,500 square kilometers to more than 10,000 square kilometers. Thus, the lake is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia during the rainy season.

The flooded mangrove forests, plains are home to over 100 species of waterfowl, including a number of species threatened or endangered. There are over 200 species of fish in the waters and crocodiles in maroques otters and turtles.

The lake is inhabited by floating villages inhabited by both Cambodianand the Vietnamese community. The individual sites are a fantastic view, with their floating houses, markets, schools and churches. The villagers earn their living by fishing, with their huge nets to catch enough for Cambodia, with half of the supply of fish for consumption.

Another important floating villages of Khneas Chong. It is 12 kilometers south of Siem Reap, and is a departure / arrival of the ferry Phnom Penh and tourism Tone Sap lakeTravel.

Both villages are situated south of the Chong Khneas on the eastern side of the lake. Kampong Khleang is actually the biggest floating village on Tonle Sap. The Vietnamese regime has also a thriving ceramics industry, there were pilesThe jars of clay before most of the houses.

Asia Travel Overland - simple tips, your trip to Asia!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Asia Travel

Asian travel, especially independently, not only to broaden their horizons, but also expose the out-of-the-ordinary places,

Country-hopping and border crossings in and out of Cambodia are the problems that are being used, but is a little 'research that you are willing to

Since I was during my first backpacking trip through Cambodia, the air is not an option. So I went by boat from Vietnam, the four-day Mekong Delta Tour of HoChi Minh City and River from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh. E 'sitll operating) and highly recommended.

I left Cambodia by boat from Sihanoukville to Koh Kong (now no longer in business), then took a motorcycle from the pier along the Thai border. Cheap flights from Bangkok until I started using a rule Overland crossings and again from time to time. All that all goes to show that if going to do a little research, the land can be an enjoyable and often more convenient, scenicand stops even in communities that do not get much in terms of tourist traffic.

However, these nodes can be connected with difficulty. To find out ahead of time, when his visa to enter the market in your path, and able to contest any charges for the disposal of intersection. Knowledge of the "standard" prices can make a big difference.

The standard process usually check-out and a country known for the entrance to the next station. In some junctions, departmentsfew steps, but you need to move on others. There are several border crossings between Cambodia and Laos, Thailand and Vietnam.

Vietnam: they are at Phnom Penh, the two most common hybrids Chau Doc (Kaam Samnor, Cambodia / Ving Xuong, Vietnam) and Bavet Checkpoint (Bavet, Cambodia / Moc Bai, Vietnam). Chau Doc is often used for cruising the Mekong River and, as you might suspect, is in the vicinity of Chau Doc on the side of Vietnam. Chau Doc, it's five or six hours by minibus to Hanoi. TheBavet path, is a common node for bus and taxi travel between Phnom Penh and Hanoi. It takes usually six to eight hours by bus, and is a good option if you want to directly HCMC. The main bus companies, start and stop the Pham Ngu Lau in District 1, HCMC.

/ From Kampot in southern Cambodia and elsewhere there are two intersections. Phnom Den, Takeo, Cambodia / Tinh Bien, Vietnam is closer to Kampot and Phnom Penh and near Chau Doc in Vietnam. Half of 2007, the Ha Tien(Junction Prek Chak, Cambodia / Xa Xia, Vietnam) has opened for foreign tourists.

Thailand: the main entrance on the north side of the crossing to / from Phnom Penh and Siem Riep is Poipet / Aranyaprathet, Thailand. This route is delivered to officials and individuals travelers excessively vile, so do your research and keep calm. Many travelers ncompanies book tour packages to simplify through this journey, but it is difficult to organize for themselves. It must be said, however, if the packets are oftencheaper. On the Thai side, is easily accessible by train or from Bangkok.

With the main southern journey to / from Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville, the Checkpoint Cham Yeam (Koh Kong, Cambodia / Had Lek, Thailand). With the recent improvements to the road and the bridge on the cambodian border, which is a manageable trip, and my favorite intersection.

Kralor the Cathedral, Cambodia / Voeung Kam, Laos, near the junction consists of two bids: one land, one above the water. Both are reachableStung Treng, which is about eight to 10 hours by bus from Phnom Penh. The crossing to Laos is pretty simple, but many have "rights" for a dollar or two spoken on both sides of the border.

Vietnamese in Cambodia

Image : http://www.flickr.com

While in Siem Reap, Cambodia, I went to a one-excursiom days the archaeological site of Angkor Wat and then went to visit the Vietnamese floating villages on Tonie Sap Lake. Funny, my driver, a very nice young man and aspiring guide, I looked on race relations between the Vietnamese and Cambodians. He said there are 4-5 million Vietnamese in Cambodia and how, and many expats in CambodiaAfter overthrowing the communist regime of Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge in 1979, Cambodia was a liberating most brutal regimes of the 20th Century. Most of the Vietnamese people in Cambodia were poor and relatively modest, many of them eke out a living from fishing and living in floating villages like the one that was visiting Tonie Sap. Officially, the number of Vietnamese living in Cambodia only 100,000, but it is estimated there are up to 5 million euros, a more realistic figure isabout 2-4 million, but as to the exact number, no one really knows.

According to "my friend", the majority of Cambodians, Vietnamese are at work, which has generated a lot of hostility displaced Cambodians. What is really worrying was the comment made my guide - when he was in power, would seek to destroy or liquidate the entirety of the Vietnamese from their country to the Pol Pot style. Now I know I was joking when he made the remark, but reflect the prevailingCambodian seen against the Vietnamese.

Funny, all the girls working in karaoke bars and massage parlors in Siem Reap were Vietnamese. Let's face it, about 20-25% of the population of Cambodia are Vietnamese, and as the Rouge and the Vietnamese ever long history, there are a lot of hostility between the two groups.

New Frontiers - Crossing the border with Cambodia, Laos Veun Kham - Dong Kralor

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Laos / Cambodia border has been open for several years and the transition was always easier lately. A few years ago when he went to Cambodia, you need a visa has been done before, but seen recently available upon arrival, if travelers coming from Laos, Cambodia, if you come from Cambodia to Laos, however, ensure that your previously viewed Laos as they are not currently available visas at the border.

There are a few ways to cross the Laos / CambodiaBorder, some economic, some practices and, of course, all an experience. It's a bit 'confusing, since two successive Lao immigration checkpoint Veun Kham and Dong are Kralor If you depart Laos Veun Kham You need about 4 km from the checkpoint Dong Kralor Cambodia to Laos and Cambodia, the checkpoint will go Dong Kralor are only 100 meters away from each other so. The road is now all but closed and not take more time, but the process is a bit 'of confusion.

Whenthe limit of foreign and usually charge $ 1 for the privilege of you with your passport stamped, this applies to both Laos and Cambodia page. I believe that you can not blame them, really, given that only make about $ 30 per month as salary. Perhaps Cambodians Survey U.S. $ 2 is on vacation, driving a bit 'far though. It would be a good idea, some smaller one-dollar bills in the United States and some pictures with you if you are a cambodian visa.

Currently there arethere are no public buses that route even if it is destined to change in the near future with the opening of the bridge Strung Treng. There is also the need to cross the Mekong River by boat more. The road is all in Phnom Penh and a trip to that used for two days can now be made in the third period ended. The border is still developed and consists of only a few wooden hut with a couple of guards waiting for the passport stamped. Do not try to run only to the borderAs you may have to rent a car or you can just put the end to the border, where there are no vehicles. If you want to try one more time, he got up in the morning, as soon as you more opportunities to organize the transport easy to reach.

If you are arriving by private means, could not be easier to guide or driver should take care of everything. This is of course the easiest way, as you can travel in a vehicle with air conditioning, there will be a brief stop at the borderAnd stamp your passport if you are transferring the vehicle and the exercise by the vehicle itself, is a truly enjoyable.

E 'organized jointly available means of transport in which you buy a ticket with a pension or a travel agency in Laos and Cambodia. If you like this, it is probably better to buy a ticket with a travel agency, as it is to avoid confusion and problems on the road, which can result from purchasing tickets at a pension. In general, they movedthe border in 15 or 22-seat minibus and then handed over to Laos or Cambodia to contact the border for the movement forward. From Pakse in Laos and the islands is possible in Phnom Penh in a day, and vice versa to achieve, it is currently not possible to reach Siem Reap in one day, though. This type of transport, although probably the cheapest and fastest is quite unpleasant, because the conditions can be a little 'tight on the bus and the long distances involved. Sometimes, however, are perhaps a little 'different choice! If you want a boat from the border with Laos Strung Treng and Kratie for its journey forward, there must be a travel agent, or let them know as soon as possible so we can organize a group to reduce costs.

A Legacy cambodian - I Want to Be My country safe for my people Make

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The sight of children and adults, walking the streets of Siem Reap with missing limbs is the trigger for taking us with the proposal to visit the cambodian Landmine Museum.

The museum is located on the main road from Siem Reap and 15-20 minutes drive from the tuk tuk from the town.

It was found that the estimates were up to 10 million landmines in the ground campaign in the first instance by the Cambodian Khmer Rouge regime have brought theirterrorist incident, and then the Vietnamese army in its fight against the Khmer Rouge. This practice has continued after the Vietnamese troops from Cambodia, with the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, with the same tactics against the remnants of the Khmer Rouge.

How many millions of landmines still present in the soil in Cambodia? You can not disable a service range of forecasts, but walking through the museum installation Mock garden with booby traps and mines, shows the danger thatexist. Even if visitors have said that the exhibits there are only a few would leave the garden without damage if you live mines.

The inspiration behind the museum and the center associated auxiliary Aki Ra. A former child soldier with the Khmer Rouge has presented his personal vision in a simple but powerful statement, "I want to be sure that my country for my people." In the case of most of the agricultural sector in Cambodia on hand depending on the risk of unexplodedMines are a constant threat to farm workers.

Its mission is to educate museum visitors about mines and unexploded ordnance on. The museum is off a major stock of mines and unexploded ordnance on display and a large collection of war material in the area around the Cambodian countryside found. One of the points is a 225kg bomb from an aircraft of the United States to war.

But the museum is only part of the vision of Aki Ra's. The plantalso supports a school and an orphanage for children who are survivors of landmine accidents, and the provision of a medical center for those who prosthetic rehabilitation.

Another part was the soldiers who live in demining activities in the structure.

As a non-governmental organization working Aki Ra's is supported by donors, both Cambodian and international. These include UNESCO and the Canadian government.

It 'strange that a man who spent his early years of plantof these weapons of destruction is now a leading lawyer in Cambodia deactivation of landmines.

However, remains the persistent problem: How many years will it take to innocent people in Cambodia are free of mutilating effects of landmines?

Zermatt, the Eternal Alpine Snow, and a look at Switzerland

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Mont Blanc stands proud as the highest mountain. But one of the photographically reproduced with the village of Zermatt Matterhorn at his feet.

When I saw the Matterhorn from the ground up, I felt like I was watching a flame frozen hot. A native who saw me looking with reverence, said, "You can go up," as if nothing had happened. I laughed ... he did not do it, but on me. I would not dare to think, try that.

In Zermatt, as well as receive other places, premises as theyAble for the number of times they climbed the Matterhorn, although many covered countless times. The restaurant had risen more than 300 times. His wife shrugged her shoulders: "Needless to say how many times," he said. "The mountain goes nowhere. It will remain there, and only the unemployed (also meaning useless), the scale".

There are no cars in Zermatt. Transportation is possible by using the cogwheel railway and horse. Sitting in a carriage drawn by horses, with a lap robe, which is asmall folded blanket, with a permanent snow on one of the most romantic.

Zermatt is characterized by narrow streets, hotels and inns with a relaxed air of history, sports shops, boutiques, jewelers and lines and cases of watches best in the world. Zermatt is a wonderful thing in the food. No matter how big, small, cheap or expensive at the cafe or restaurant we stopped at was perfect. Everything was clean, cleaned with flowers on every table. The food was very highQuality and some Swiss wines were at least on par with that of the French. Most of the dishes at lunch among the natives consisted of soup, salad, sausage and potatoes and, of course, "beer" in length, the bowl covered with thick dense foam.

Unlike other small towns I knew from before, Zermatt has a large tourist population during the year, with a good number of young people. You have to be young and agile as a mountain goat climbing a bit 'too daring.

People in Switzerland are not onlyClimbers. They also enjoy the Alpine Festival, "William Tell" game, yodeling, Swiss wrestling, beer, hot dogs, but lead to direct democracy, with 25 sovereign states and enjoy a great diversity from village to village. In some places in Switzerland, the language is French, as places where the language is German. In a corner of the entire Italian Alps, who speak Italian, too. Do not worry, though, the majority of the Swiss know many languages and many of them flowingEnglish.

Winter in Switzerland is a fairy tale, especially at night. The falling snow blurred different light, while earning anywhere, even on roofs. Everything is softer, magical, and kind.

Like snow in the mountains, rocks, ridges and peaks, and perhaps more people have to work with things is hard, sharp things, to confuse things, in order to ease the nervousness in itself, especially when magnetic draw of a mountain pulls farther anddeeper, and forces them to create something, a feeling of joy and pride of achievement.

Therefore, the Swiss women have such a fine lace and embroidered garments must be created, while their companions participated in watchmaking in Switzerland, as during the time counted submerged. Somebody had something to include in the solitude of the Alpine white nights.

Lovely Laos

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I found in Laos is less than 24 hours, and I'm already in love with this place ... It 'really like my guide said, "a breath of fresh air." Maybe it's only escape from the chaos and madness that is Bangkok, but I think that no matter where I am from this magical place I come and see ...

Are Vienteinne, the capital of Laos. Located in the center-south, about 20 minutes from the border with Thailand, here - they must cross the bridge of friendship "which Ito find, so it is appropriate that these people are so incredibly friendly and warm ... I talked about this place is also cheap as chips? Well, it is. This is a nice welcome and (as I almost blew my budget) from water.

The city is lush and green, because it is on the Mekong River, and as I write this the sun went down, casting a dark veil over everything is very beautiful. There are a lot of vendors on the street, all of which employon strong in their straw hats selling fruit, fish and other Asian delicacies whose names I can not spell or pronounce. This city was once colonized by the French and, like Siem Reap and Phnom Phenh in Cambodia, it is not hard to find the flu. Tiny French bistro line bank of the river, complete with outdoor cafe-style "... plenty of space for the architecture includes French facades and balconies that are so captivating, so ... Those ce pais ... Man bikingassociated with a car full of baguettes with them, and if not enough - there is also an Arch of Triumph again! I'm already in love with the place. Bangkok is definitely wear a thin person ...

I came on a night bus from Bangkok - yes, that is approximately 15 hours of travel by bus. Unfortunately the licensing for the love of literature, there were goats, chickens, or even locals on board - was a very close "Farang" (tourists), with air conditioning and adjustable seats seeds. Nothinginteresting place. Upon arrival, I took a tuk "tuk driver, a standard mode of transport is here. They are basically motorcycles, the "pimped" with larger engines are on a 2-wheel cart with a small roof and open sides and back, where up to 4 people to sit this report is attached. They are funny as hell going on around them - but scary at the same time, as they seem to be able to speed and weave through the traffic mock (Bangkok traffic hell, thank God there ishere).

I was exhausted to say the least, but I decided to give the city a whirl anyway. I started in a small street, a walk up and down the other until I had to find relief from the heat - that was the way to almost unbearable. I sat down for a drink and my nose in my guide is to do things. What tickles my fancy? Herbal steam bath ... Yes, yes, ironic as it sounds, this is what I decided (it sounded so appealing, and is only asLaos). So I started my journey.

This place was so adorable. It was a wooden building on stilts, which was open on all sides. The different sizes of hanging plants line the edges and a bit 'run-down condition of the place that had more charm. On the stairs, there is a room where cabinets are made of wood, for your things as padded benches and a table, where tea is detoxifying "the world of dripping persons served fresh from the room. Athe left is the humble steam bath (the only walled room) and the entire front section has 6 beds, where you can get a traditional massage. Thew I am my sarong and went in. ..

The room was not as aromatic as I expected, but still fragrant and very small (size 4-5). Coals to produce steam at our feet and slight hints of lemon grass in the air. It is beautiful and a little 'refreshing, even on a hot day flat. I went down and poured me a shower that came with the bucket(Sarong and all), a cup of tea, and went back inside. Sigh. Then I found a beautiful body - massage (one hour - $ 3 ... I'm not kidding) by a girl, were not more than 13

After my stint in the sauna detoxification, I came across 3 monks who were very curious about me, where I come from, where I was ... etc., and I chatted with them for about 1 / 2 hours. I was a bit 'caught off-guard by the opening, as they are usually fairly discreet, and I was trying to be prudentRemember not to do all those things, namely: to touch. A woman touching a Monaco in any way or form is equivalent to reducing its purity. They wanted to see my chain and watch all of us to avoid accidental contact. Finally, I have some pictures of them, and tried to apologize.

Then they hit me.

Yep, 3 monks actually met me. E 'was hysterical. They told me that it was "Woman's Day" - I was beautiful, and could be my husband? I laughed andsignal alone is not sure what kind of karma I acquired unconsciously seduced 3 monks.

In any case - that was my day and I feel like a million U.S. dollars. I am so, so incredibly happy to be here, and I just can not wait for that lies ahead of us.

For now, I will be happy to sunset on the Mekong.

Time & Society, the New 7 Wonders Foundation, based in Switzerland, the Internet voting system to choose seven, among others, the wonders of the created world. In the temple, in fact, access to the Internet, I voted Angkor Wat (the world's largest Hindu province of Siem Reap, Cambodia. And this time has always been one of the Seven Wonders of the World) as one of the Seven Wonders of the World world. Unfortunately, I see the voting system for the InternetSeven wonders of the world is really unfair to Cambodia [and] other poor countries.

Quoted by the World Bank, Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in the world, and the region. The term "means one of the poorest", that only a so-called mini segment of the population has Internet access, information, language and other social services and facilities. It is simple, the period of low education or low literacy. In Cambodia, under the twenty-four provinces, only PhnomPenh, the easy access to the Internet. Internet access in Sihanoukville and Siem Reap is very expensive and very slow.

Compared to the United States of America, Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Australia and other countries that have one of the wonders of the world, Cambodia is nothing compared to these countries. Population, poverty, education, character, internet, language is proof that the voting system is the Internet http://www.n7w.comtotally unfair. Internet is expensive in Cambodia, compared to the curiosity of the cambodian people, the outcome seems already determined.

This result is already visible when the "majority" is the method of choice. However, I hope the world choose the seven wonders of the world, on the basis of reality.

This article would serve the message to the world to rethink the way select the seven wonders of the world.
